|Darrell L. Bowland, 60, of Ina, IL, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013 at the home of his sister in Toledo, OH.
Darrell was a former over the road truck driver and last work for E. L. Henderson Trucking in Salem, IL.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War serving aboard the USS Constellation (CVA-64) and was the Senior Vice Commander of the Disabled America Veterans Memorial Chapter # 28 in Mt. Vernon, IL. He also held the past position of Sergeant Of Arms of the D.A.V. M. Chapter # 28 in Mt. Vernon, IL.
Darrell was born July 6, 1953 in Pleasanton, CA. to Glen Homer Bowland, Sr. and Mildred Louise (Becker) Bowland.
Darrell was united in marriage with Margaret Louise Steinmetz on June 7, 2008 in Thompsonville, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Bowland of Ina; two daughters and a son-in-law, Angelina and Nathan Michaud of Leavenworth, KS, Tiffany Bowland of St. Peters, FL; 7 grandchildren, Alexcis and Austyn Marshall , Jordon , Bryce and Jeremiah Williams, Travis and Kaila Bowland; 3 step daughters, Caroline and Josh McSparin of Benton, Melissa Drennon and Damon Wilson of West Frankfort, Jamie Frymire and Anthony Gilio of Whiteash; 1 step son, James “Bobby” Kessel and Vanessa Jennings of Sacramento, CA.; 11 step grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Smith, Hunter McSparin, Jimmy, Megan and Shane Drennon, Amaya Wilson, Charles and Gabrielle Frymire, Zachary and Emilea Gilio; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandy and Gary Nettles of Toledo, OH, Darlene (his twin) and Frank Chenetski of Oregon, OH: brother, Glen Bowland Jr. of Toledo, OH and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Darrell’s favorite things to do where: cooking, fishing, watching the NASCAR races, collecting Dale Earnheart Sr. NASCARS and NASCAR memorabilia, coke a cola items, spending time with his friends and most of all he got great joy out of spending time with all his grandchildren and step grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p. m. until 8:00p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Meredith - Waddell Funeral Home , 2704 South Park Avenue, Herrin,IL.62948. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday , November 8, 2013 at Meredith - Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Brian Mixion officiating. The Disabled American Veterans Memorial Chapter # 28 of Mt. Vernon, will do a walk through. Interment with military graveside rites conducted by the Herrin American Legion Post # 645, Baker - Ladd V. F. W. Post # 1567 and the IL Army National Guard Honor Detail will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.
